This I Believe . . .

I believe that teachers have one of the most important careers in the world. Teachers need to inspire their students. Each day a teacher steps into the classroom, they have to prepare their students for life. Think of a place where teachers could not inspire their students and what would America’s future be like?

There are many qualities, attributes and skills that make a well-rounded teacher. You have to be an excellent planning. Have good public speaking skills. Have a depth of knowledge in your subject area. To me the most important characteristic is your connection between your students. If you are not able to connect with your students or have an understanding then your students will not perform to their best ability. Your students must know that you are there for them and believe in them.

Joel,
I also believe that our jobs are one of the most important in the world. We do not only act as educators of our content area in the classroom, we are mentors for life. The students look to us for guidance and respect. They want to know that we are there for them...even if they are not always the best student in class...maybe especially then. I am glad to hear that there are still teachers who believe that teaching is an art...and it is about teaching the whole person..not just our content area.
